The Greek Cemetery at 105, Narkeldanga Main Road, Kolkata (Calcutta), though important as a heritage site, with graves dating back to the 1700s, is not famous for cemetery sculptures. Most graves are simple. But this one alone can be the reason why enthusiasts interested in cemetery sculpture should visit this place.

That cemetary sculpture is particularly beautiful. It’s truly amazing how much detail the artist included.
What a beautiful headstone! Graveyards give me the creeps (maybe because I watched too much Scooby-Doo) but I would love to hear more.
Every time I visit my dad at his cemetery, it is never as depressing as I predict. I think a big reason for that is the beautiful sculptures and art that adorn the deceased.

We visited the national cemetery in Milan, Italy. I was surprised by how many wonderful and touching sculptures there were, and there was no admission fee! We also really enjoyed perusing the Park Church cemetery in Boston. One should not overlook cemeteries while traveling.
I had absolutely no idea there was a significant Greek community in India. From everything I had read, the largest influx was during Alexander’s battles, and I had no idea there was any significant influx of Greeks thereafter, thank you for shedding some light on this often overlooked fact.
